Earlier today, Taylor Swift dropped her hotly-anticipated "Lover" remix and revealed the alternate take's mystery guest: her former tour mate Shawn Mendes, who dropped some new lyrics into the Top 40 hit.
Now that fans have had a chance to take in the new version, Mendes took to Twitter to voice his support. "Thank you Taylor Swift for letting me join you on such a beautiful song," the singer-songwriter wrote, singing with an emoji heart.
"He has taken 'Lover' and he has re-written parts it, which I think is so important because I love him as a writer," Swift explained in her own Instagram post. "And I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover and I think his take on it is so beautiful."
Mendes' new lyrics include a reworked second verse that plays f the original's themes romance and Christmas lights: "We could light a bunch candles and dance around the kitchen, baby / Pictures when we were young would hang on the wall / We would sit on the stoop, I'll sing love songs to you when we're eighty."
