“We saw each other, actually, after I did that,” Clarkson said. “I wasn’t really trying to defend or fend anyone. It was more , like, Reba told me she did that…like, that was it. She told me she did that, she wanted to own her masters, and I was like, ‘If it’s that important to you, find a way.’ And she re-cut all her music and did the same musicians, same everything. That’s where I got the idea, yeah.”
While the American Idol winner explained that she understands why Swift would want to own her music, she doesn’t necessarily feel the same way about her own catalog chart-topping hits.
“Taylor’s like the artist…she’s been writing since she was a little girl, right?” Clarkson said. “So it’s kind her diary, so I get why she’d want to. I don’t really care about owning my masters or not. I’m just like, ‘Whatever, I’m gonna sing ‘em till I’m dead, it’s fine.’ It’ll be fine. And then somebody can make money f it, I don’t care…like I wrote, like, half, a little more than half my stuff. And hers is a hundred percent it, so it’s hers. So I can see how it could matter to her.”
