She also revealed what it felt like to open for Vanilla Ice on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ on Thursday night (Dec. 5).
Alanis Morissette had a one-word reaction when a fan called into Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night (Dec. 5) to ask how she felt about Britney Spears covering her signature hit "You Oughta Know" during Brit's Circus tour in 2009. "Awesome… I love Britney so much," Morissette said. As for the caller's second question: which celeb interaction freaked her out the most, Alanis again had a very simple answer: Prince.
"He came to a show and he listened to our show and he had his eyes closed the whole time from the sound board," she told Andy Cohen about the late "Purple Rain" icon. The singer also gamely took a call from another fan who asked how sick she was people asking if "You Oughta Know" is allegedly about Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier) Full House fame. "No revealing, but I am intrigued at the thought, or at the fact that more than one person has taken credit for it. I don't know if you want to take credit for being the person I wrote 'You Oughta Know' about," she laughed about the notoriously scathing kiss-f song.
Morissette said there are "about six people" who taken credit for the song in which she sings about someone being a "douche or an a–hole," which seems like a weird thing to want to attach your name to. The singer, who debuted her single "Reasons I Drink" from her upcoming Such Pretty Forks in the Road (May 1) on The Tonight Show on Wednesday, also revealed what it was like to open for Vanilla Ice back in the day.
Spoiler alert: it's true that she could not look him in the eyes. Morissette will also be honored with the Icon Award at Billboard's Women in Music event on Dec. 12.
