Avril Lavigne paid a go to to The Tonight Show on Wednesday evening (Feb. 13) to carry out the title observe her upcoming album, Head Above Water.
Accompanied by her band on a minimalist set with cool-toned flashing lights, Lavigne flowed alongside the stage carrying an all-black jumpsuit with cascading sleeves and a big crucifix as she carried out the pop-rock anthem, her first single in three years. “God, hold my head above water/ Don't let me drown, it will get more durable/ I'll meet you there, on the altar/ As I fall right down to my knees/ Don't let me drown, drown, drown/ Don't let me, don't let me, don’t let me drown,” she sang.
Lavigne’s emotional observe f her sixth studio album (due out on Feb. 15), follows the singer-songwriter as she fights for her life in her battle with Lyme Disease. She described to Billboard final October why she wrote the song. “This track is a track that’s very private and near me as a result of I clearly simply took 5 years away from the highlight, three these years being battling and combating Lyme Disease,” she defined. “I used to be capable of write songs from my mattress and ‘Head Above Water’ is a track that I wrote an evening that I felt like I used to be truly dying and had form accepting it.”
